Introduction

First two weeks of student teaching a FM HS have been a little slow. I just stared to take attendance for the 9th and 10th grade students. I can tell the difference between the upper and under classmen. Most upper classmen can care less about instructions. As for most of the under classmen they are afraid to get in trouble so they listen to everything. I am helping coach the modified field hockey team. Most of the girls have played before, but there are some who have never held a stick. Since they are so young we are going over the rules and regulations of game play. I am excited to start teaching my own classes and see how I do!!!

New Semester

It is very important to get to know not only your professors but also your classmates. Your peers in the classes you are in could be a coworker. This is why it is important to step out and talk to others. We do not have shells for a reason so don't act like you can hide in one! you may be struggling in a class but remember you are not alone and working together with classmates will help and create new contacts.

So remember when you are in class talk to others, relate, and don't be shy. A simple word, wave, hand shake, or high five can help build a relationship.

Homer Softball!

Homer Varsity Softball Girls

As I have blogged about before I am helping out the Homer varsity softball girls. I made every practice and home game that I could. I was really happy I was able to experience working with these girls. I also plan on helping them till their season is over.

At practice we will split up pitchers and catchers, infield and outfield to create move one on one time. I normally take outfield and hit pop flies to them. I mix the type of balls that I hit them from, ranging from left, right, shot, far back, and the occasional grounder. I enjoy working and helping all the girls.
Before a game I soft toss to the girls, while coach hits balls to the others. When soft tossing I try to give them high, low, inside, and outside. After everyone has hit I catch the balls from the in and outfield while coach gives them situational plays. Once the pitcher and catcher are ready they take the field and I wait till they have finished their field warm up. Some games I coach first base, but most of the time coach Dwight is there. Even when I am not on the field coaching the girls come to me for help and advice. I am very happy Professor Yang assigned us to do at least ten hours of community service or i would not be helping out Homer Softball now.

How to Move Like a Rockstar

This is Beyonce's new video and song. She created this working with Michelle Obama's let's move campaign!
As you can see Beyoncé has an awesome new song and video out, to get everyone moving. At Cortland we created somewhat of a flash mob dancing to her Move your Body song.

In this video there are over 30 SUNY Cortland students doing the Move Your Body steps. We did this to help get the word out for everyone to get out and move. We didn’t have much time to review, but it was fun and I like the overall outcome. The steps in this song were simple. I feel like this would be good for students from grades 1 to 12th. There are seven missions in this song. They ranged from high knees, salsa, jump roping, and running man. There moves are easy and fun! I am so happy I was a part of this and hope everyone will follow along and move their bodies.

255 PART 1

Brain Gain

Daily Burn

ii: Screen shots from my week of useing daily burn!
iii: I like how it keeps track of all my workouts and what I eat. Also if I missed a day I could go back and still put what I ate or did in.
No I do not use anything like Daily Burn. I had to use a site similar to this for my nutrition class last year, but I don’t remember what it was called. Also I didn’t keep up with it. I do remember that it didn’t keep track of your workouts.
I don’t have time or the motivation to keep recording what I do and eat right now. I think in a year or so I would do a lot better at keeping up with it every day. My favorite thing about Daily Burn is that if I miss a day I can go back. Because it has this feature I may be more likely to use it more than my other website.  If there was an app for Daily Burn that I could download on my phone I think I would use it much more.
IV: this website would be great for students to use. As stated in the NYS Learning Standard 1b- students will design personal fitness programs to improve cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, and body composition. Daily Burn would be something that a physical education teacher could use to help students create and keep track of their nutrition and workout plan. This website has all of the things that is stated in NYS LS 1b. It is quick and easy also. All the children have to do is record their nutrition, workouts/ physical activity, and sleep. Then put it into the Daily Burn website and it will do all the rest for them.
V: For NYS Learning Standard 1a it states students will perform basic motor and manipulative skills. Students will attain competency in a variety of motor and sport activities. If I had to choose a tools for my students to use to help collect data I would pick a pedometer. This will collect all the steps the students take will in class and doing an activity. I decided on a pedometer because it is reliable, practical for schools, and easy to use. One of the main issues in schools today is budgets. I feel like a pedometer is the best way to go to collect data for the regent’s level in the 1a NYS LS. In a high school setting each student will be asked to put a pedometer on before class. Excel example. Making sure it is reset and then at the end of the class record their steps from the day. At the beginning of each lesson there will be a poster with the recommended  number of steps for that class.
